browncoatradio The funk/jazz/metal album of Japanese sea shantys you didn't know you needed! Akira Sakata is a revelation here, but the man who drew me to this set is the guitarist Pete Cosey, a brilliant player who few people seem to know about. Listen to the man take the guitar into dark, distorted, and funky territory as he backs Sakata on this incredible jams. Well worth your time.

Alan Ramskill This is a great record of course Akira Sakata’s voice and sax is beautiful but what got me to spend so much hard earned is the absolutely amazing rhythm section!
Hamid, and Bill are awesome and Pete Cosey is superb. Best guitar sound I’ve heard in ages! Love your work guys!

Akira Sakata Tokyo, Japan

Akira Sakata impresses as a skilled saxophonist, a marine biologist and with his vocals from a far away time and place...
Since the late 60s, Sakata has been a constant figure in jazz and creative music scenes as an adventurous multi-instrumentalist, and member of Yamashita Yosuke Trio and many under his own lead. He played and recorded with Bill Laswell, Hijokaidan and is active with Jim O'Rourke
